We are proud to announce our 17th Annual Walk for Autism Chair Family:

The Steiner Family

We are extremely honored to be the chair family for the Autism Society NWPA 17th Annual Walk for Autism  being held on April 28, 2018.

We began our journey when our twins Mason and Braden were diagnosed before their 2nd birthday in February 2010.  Born at 34 weeks, they both spent time in the NICU for a few weeks. Due to being born premature both qualified for early intervention services. They had delays with rolling, feeding and sitting but we just assumed it was due to their being born 6 weeks early. As they got older, we became concerned when they were not using words to communicate and had difficulty with change in routines. After the initial diagnoses of autism and with the early intervention services our boys were receiving, we turned to the Autism Society NWPA for support.  We quickly realized that this was a place our family could turn to for judgment free support, guidance, educational resources and fun community outings for the entire family. Having two children on the spectrum is challenging, but having autism friendly community events that our entire family can experience together was very important to us. We also have a daughter, Morgan (age 6) who loves attending the community outings with her older brothers.  It also helps siblings to feel included as they often are the ones who feel left out with the day to day care of their sibling(s) on the spectrum.  Some of our favorite family “memory making” outings include the annual Christmas party, Sensory friendly Santa time, snow tubing, Summer picnic, bowling, pumpkin farm and our most recent fun find, Lego Social Club! It makes my heart happy to see how well they are both doing and we thank the Autism Society NWPA for allowing us to attend these important learning social opportunities for families.  We look forward to attending these each year, and the kids always have so much fun.  Every year it’s great to see how much the boys have matured and grown.  Attending these events we have met some pretty awesome families and made lifelong friends thru the Autism Society.

The Autism Society NWPA is a valuable resource for our family and the entire community. This organization gives hope to families with children on the autism spectrum and we are truly grateful for all that they do for families like ours.  We hope that you will come out and join us in supporting the Autism Society NWPA.

Sincerely,

Kara, Dave, Mason, Braden and Morgan Steiner
